What we commonly call “experience” does not originate in a subject sealed off from the world, nor does it arrive fully formed from an “outside.” Our lived experience takes shape relationally, through the movement by which what is encountered is felt, registered, and transformed. While it is tempting to think that what appears in consciousness originates and takes its shape there, the subject, though the locus of this experience, is never its sole author.

To close your eyes is to see. In the dream state, the extraordinary state, or even in the everyday mundane, the symbol emerges—laden with ambiguous meaning, carrying its own psychic charge, and living its own life as if independently of our psyches and perceptions.

It’s almost impossible to talk about Open Awareness, one of the central tools in our practice, without bringing up affects- those pre-verbal and precognitive intensities that emanate from, and stick to bodies in space and time.
